Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.  – On Thursday, September 24, 2015, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Sean Salaber, 22, Riverside, in connection with an attempted rape and assault with a deadly weapon on a 23 year-old female.

Salaber was arrested in a residential neighborhood near Kite Hill Drive and Becard Drive, approximately one-quarter mile from the Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park where the alleged assault occurred.

According to OCSD spokesperson, Lt. Hallock, onThursday, September 24, 2015, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a female victim who was threatened with a handgun at the Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park near Alicia Parkway and Aliso Creek Road.  The female victim reported that while running on the trails, Salaber tackled her from behind, held a handgun to her head and sexually groped her.  The victim screamed for help; however, Salaber ordered her to be quiet while holding a gun to her head.  During the struggle, Salaber was scared off by bystander’s response to the victim’s screams for help.

The victim provided a thorough physical and clothing description of Salaber who was located by deputies approximately one-quarter mile from the park.  Immediately after being provided a description of Salaber, Sheriff’s patrol units and airship began searching the area.  Salaber was located on foot, approximately 40 minutes after the assault occurred.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) investigators were contacted and assumed responsibility for the investigation.  The investigation is ongoing as evidence is being collected from Salaber’s vehicle that was located nearby.  Sheriff’s reserve deputies responded to the scene early this morning and are assisting with a search for additional evidence, including the handgun used by Salaber.

Salaber was arrested for attempted rape, false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon.  He was booked into Orange County Jail and being held on $100K bail.  Salaber is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 28, 2015.  Additional charges are pending the ongoing investigation.
