Rancho Santa Margarita,
CA – Nine recipients, their
parents and friends joined the Angels Board, Angels members, faculty and staff
for dessert and coffee for an intimate ceremony where students were presented
scholarship awards in the amount of $1000 at Saddleback College in the Studio
Theatre on May 15th.
The Angels for the Arts organization at Saddleback College
presented the scholarship to students
in the Arts. Board President Barbara
Kroe addressed the audience and introduced Dean Bart McHenry who handed each
recipient a check after they performed, presented or discussed their particular
medium.
The Angels for the Arts is a fundraising and support
organization for the Performing and Visual Arts at Saddleback College. Angel
members donate their time and talent to raise funds and assist with a variety
of arts events on the campus. The group is led by a volunteer advisory board of
directors. Angel members believe in the importance of offering a full spectrum
of arts to the community, with the college as the focal point. These events
bring together Orange County residents from all walks of life, for the purpose
of enlightenment, entertainment, and inspiration.
“Thank you to the
Angels for the Arts for their continuous and dedicated support to our students
and performing and visual arts programs, and congratulations to our student
scholarship winners, whose talents are an inspiration throughout our campus and
community,” said Tod Burnett, Saddleback College President.
Award Recipients::
Brooke Howell, Speech student from Laguna Niguel, is
currently on the award-winning Saddleback College Speech and Debate Forensics
Team. In the next two years, she plans to continue as a member of
Forensics to improve her public speaking. Her long-term goal is to attend
law school. Brooke performed an award-winning speech.
Michael Clute, Visual Arts student from
Rancho Santa Margarita, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree and eventually a
teaching credential in order to teach art for high school students. His
long-term goal is to earn a master of fine arts degree in order to teach sculpture
at a college or university. Photos of his sculpture were displayed.
Learon Inbar, Visual Arts student from
Trabuco Canyon, plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Design with a
focus in costume and set design. She recently learned that she has been
accepted to UCLA. Her long-term goal is to seek an assistantship to a costume
or set designer and eventually earn a master’s degree in Theatre Design.

Daniel Frazier, Photography student from Chino, is a
veteran who was deployed overseas three times in five years. His goals are to
successfully transfer to a four-year university and start a double major to
graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business and photography. He found
passion in photography and wants to build his photography business following
college. His photography was displayed.
Dimitri Garaud, Theatre Arts student from San Clemente,
has performed in four shows in his first two semesters at Saddleback
College. He plans to transfer to Cal State Long Beach to study acting,
scene studies, musical theatre, stage craft, costume design, make-up and
lighting. He performed Be
Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast, using
candlestick holders as props that he made out of Paper Mache in Diane Lewis’
costume class.
Timothy (Chase) Chandler, Music student from San
Clemente, is a trumpet player who switched to vocal music last fall. He
plans to pursue voice and vocal performance which has been a different and
transforming experience compared to trumpet, piano and guitar. He
actually started “performing” instead of just playing or singing and he is
anxious to see where this takes him in the next 3-5 years. He performed
an operatic piece by Mozart.
Kenneth Breadhoff,
Cinema-Television-Radio student from Mission Viejo, plans to pursue his studies
at a four-year university and he would also like to create his own audio
production-company that features a website to promote up-and-coming voice-over
actors. Audio recordings of his voice-over work were played and he read a
poem that he wrote. The scholarship money will help him regain some
finances he lost during the recession.
Andrew Garig-Meyer,
Cinema-Television-Radio student from San Juan Capistrano, plans to pursue a
higher degree in film and continue to direct short films. He plans to use
his scholarship money to purchase a director’s view finder and to put some of
the money towards buying a car, which is an essential need for a filmmaker as
many film locales are in the middle of nowhere and requires shooting at dawn.
Isadora Sharon, Dance student from Laguna Niguel, plans to study many dance
styles and to return to martial arts to create an abstract style of
dance. She is also auditioning for Chapman University in the fall.
As a long term goal, she plans to use her studies in anthropology to travel and
learn cultural styles of dance. She performed a multi-cultural dance.

Angels for the Arts provide support for scholarships for
students in Visual & Performing Arts, MainStage Kids Productions, master
classes with professional artists, hospitality for guest artist performers and
crew, enhancements for arts patrons, such as the tram, and the annual Big Band
Swing Thing fundraiser.
