The City of Rancho Santa Margarita Salutes First Responders At Its 3rd Annual Patriot Day Recognition

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA  – The City of Rancho Santa Margarita salutes first responders at its 3^rd Annual Patriot Day recognition by welcoming the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) in a ceremony to be held in City Hall on September 8^th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.   The 3^rd Annual Patriot Day Recognition commemorates  Patriot Day and the 11^th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

By Presidential proclamation in 2002, September 11th was designated as Patriot Day. It is a day to remember the 3,000 innocent victims, their families, and to honor the men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives so that others might survive. Each year, the City’s Patriot Day event has been a very special commemoration of the tragedy on 9/11 and of our patriots who serve with heroism, selflessness, compassion, and courage. Come join the community for this free family event The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for unincorporated areas of Orange County, California and cities that contract OCFA's services.  OCFA serves nearly 1.8 million residents in 23 cities and unincorporated areas from 71 fire stations.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department (OCSD) is the law enforcement agency serving Orange County,  the unincorporated areas of Orange County and twelve contract cities in the county: Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Stanton, and Villa Park. The agency also provides law enforcement services to the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) system, and John Wayne Airport.  OCSD also runs Orange County's Harbor Patrol, which provides law enforcement, marine fire fighting, search and rescue, and underwater search and recovery services along the county's 42 miles (68 km) of coastline and in the county's three harbors.

The event will feature a “static display” of the vehicles and equipment that deputies and firefighters use to protect and save lives every day in our community. The public is invited to get an up close view of the display and to salute the men and women who are first to respond to local emergencies.

At 11:00 a.m. Mayor Beall and members of the City Council, local scouts, and the American Legion  will present a flag ceremony, including a 21-gun salute by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, concluding with taps on bugle.
