Rancho Santa Margarita Helps with Operation Rack Pack for Returning Marines
City’s Adopted 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines (2/5)
Posted by CotoBlogzz
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - The 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines were deployed to Okinawa, Japan for over six months.
Operation Help a Hero and the City of RSM are collecting donations for Operation Rack Pack. The men of 2/5 are expected to return from their deployment beginning this month and into May. When they return, there will be hundreds of young Marines and Sailors returning to empty barracks. To show appreciation, gifts of gratitude for over 800 Marines and Sailors will be placed in their barracks to greet them.
The goal of Operation Rack Pack is to provide each Marine with a clean room, a fridge full of refreshments, welcome home signs and more. Ideally, every Marine will be able to come home and have the necessary items to take a shower, put on clean clothes, grab dinner and enjoy some pampering without having to go to storage or to the store.
Right now the greatest needs are: towels, deodorant, shaving cream, sports drinks, toothpaste, trial size laundry detergent, trial size shampoo, toothbrushes, and t-shirts.
Donations can be dropped off at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center, 22232 El Paseo. Donation deadline is May 2, 2014. For more information about donations contact Wendi Redington at wredington@cityofrsm.org.
