Las Pulgas Rd @I5 OCSD officer involved shooting

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA: according to San Diego Sheriff's Department Lt. John Maryon, the following is preliminary information pertaining to the officer involved shooting at Las Pulgas Rd and Ii5: on August 4, 2015, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a deputy from the Orange County Sheriff's Department (OCSD) came upon a man in a vehicle acting strangely. The driver of the vehicle was aggressively pointing his finger at the deputy and told him he had a weapon and he was going to kill him and then kill himself.
The deputy retreated to his vehicle and spoke to the man four about one hour. By this time additional deputies arrived as well as agents from the United States Border Patrol.
The driver then exited his vehicle. When he exited his vehicle he extended his right arm and pointed his hand at the deputies/agents. His hand was wrapped in a black shirt concealing a portion of his hand and arm.
Fearing for their safety, a deputy fired less lethal projectiles at the man possibly striking him in the abdomen. The suspect briefly paused then pointed his right hand back at the deputies/agents. They then fired their duty weapons at the suspect striking him multiple times. Deputies performed CPR on the suspect, but despite their resuscitation efforts the suspect was pronounced dead. None of the deputies/agents were injured.
The suspect was a fifty-five year old male who was a resident of Vista.
There were three deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Department and two agents from the United States Border Patrol involved in the actual shooting of the suspect. Their information will be released at a later date.
This incident will be investigated by detectives from the San Diego Sheriff's Homicide Detail.
