Santa Margarita, CA - On
Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 6:41pm, officers from the Moreno Valley Police
Department (MVPD) responded to a
shooting at a residence on the 23000 block of Bay Avenue, Moreno Valley.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD,) the first
officer arrived on scene within two minutes of receiving the call and found one
male victim in the residence with gunshot wounds. The victim was
transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased after
lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, officers on Bay
Avenue obtained a physical description of a Black male adult in his 30s who
fled the residence on foot. During their search of the neighborhood, a subject
matching his description was seen on the 23000 Block of Dome Street and
detained. He was positively identified by witnesses as the suspect.
A handgun
believed to be the weapon used was found a short distant away from the shooting
on Bay Avenue.
Investigators
from the Moreno Valley Police Department and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide
Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation which led to the
arrest of 38-year-old, Chauncey Crowder for murder. He was transported
to the Robert Presley Detention Center where he is currently held on $1,000,000
bail. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to family.
Neither the victim nor the suspect in this incident resided on Bay Avenue.
Their relationship to the residents and their purpose for being there is still
under investigation.
