Freedom of Speech Applies to the Word 'God' Too"
Freedom of Speech Applies to the Word 'God' Too"
October 31, 2007
In the article titled the Czensoring of God, published October 11, 2006 by the CotoBuzz Journal, we describe how the Architect of the Capitol, citing its own rules, returned flag certificates with the word "God" excised and Republican Rep. Michael Turner taking “exception to the systematic secularization of policies associated with flag certificates – in essence censoring God”
We are pleased to hear the Congressman Ken Calvert (California 44th District) has picked up the issue. In his newsletter dated October 26, 2007 he writes in part:
Like many of you, I am proud of our distinctly American culture that is rooted in religious beliefs and values. The Pilgrims came here to escape religious oppression that prevented them from practicing their personal religious beliefs. Today, a similar movement is occurring that threatens the expression of religion in our society. In fact, it recently reached the halls of Congress.
One of the constituent services provided by Members of Congress is the ability to purchase American flags flown over the U.S. Capitol Building. Accompanying each flag is a certificate with the date it was flown and a personalized message written by the constituent who requested the flag. In recent weeks, the acting Architect of the Capitol rejected a number of the personalized comments, citing policy that “religious language” is not permitted on flag certificates, including the use of the word “God.”
In response to this new policy of restricting religious references, I joined with over 140 of my colleagues in Congress in sending a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) requesting review and reversal of the Architect’s policy. On October 11, 2007, the Architect of the Capitol announced that he is reversing the policy on the use of religious language on flag certificates.
KEN CALVERT
Member of Congress

Gone Delusional Real Estate Hunting
Gone Delusional Real Estate Hunting
But as Mr. Hunt might say, SB528 was not controversial and there are no real estate problems!
October 30, 2007
According to Bob Hunt, director of the California Association of Realtors, “SB528 was not controversial and it didn’t receive a lot of attention, But it’s a good law, and that’s good news, how refreshing”, as described in the Orange County Register’s October 25, 2007 section of South County Living.
Then there are those real estate agents telling prospective customers that there has never been a better time to buy a home than now. For that matter, there has never been a better time to sell a home, and there are no problems with the housing market. Come to think about it, the sales pitch sounds very much like the ones used by salesmen selling experienced cars.
In the article titled “ SENATOR AANESTAAD: PIMP MY HOA!” published June 18, 2007 by the CotoBuzz Journal, D. Vanitzian describes what is wrong with SB528, what it says, and more importantly, what it does not say. But as Mr. Hunt might say, SB528 was not controversial and there are no real estate problems!

Bella the Movie Hollywood Does not Want You To Watch – Reviewing the Reviewer
Bella the Movie Hollywood Does not Want You To Watch – Reviewing the Reviewer
October 29, 2007
If you do not like emotional roller coasters with high peaks and low valleys. If you enjoy mindless dialogue, an overabundance of special effects and megabucks Hollywood productions, sequential storytelling and cannot stand subtitles, Bella is definitely not for you, or for Betsy Pickle for that matter. In the Scripps Howard News Service Bella review, Pickle writes : Bella “…is about people making connections, but it's so far removed from how real people behave that it feels disconnected”. Perhaps the “real people” Pickle refers to is the one portrayed by Hollywood in the nuclear proliferation of reality TV shows, such as the Real Housewives of Orange County.
Bella opened this weekend in Orange County at the Regal Theaters hoping to attract enough interest to be picked up for national distribution
Pickle describes the movie as an “earnestly crafted as a feel-good movie, "Bella" is a walk-and-talkathon boasting two fetching stars”. As we watched moviegoers exit the theater discussing the movie, the word most often used to describe it was “different”, implying they were still trying to decide whether they liked it or not.
Pickle writes that “the film shoves in plugs for adoption and raises an alarm about intra-ethnic-group prejudice…..Yet Monteverde's graceless staging and groundless character behavior betray his good intentions, leaving the film less than "bella." Seems like Pickle’s real pickle is not the messenger, but the message celebrating life. As a blogger writes "There has been a problem in the past that good, wholesome family movies have not been played around the country -- only really bad Hollywood junk"
Bella Theater Listings:
2007 TONY BENNETT MEDIA EXCELLENCE AWARD
"Bella" comes out in theatres this October 26, and includes known celebrities Eduardo Verastegui, Tammy Blanchard (Emmy Award winner,Good Shepard), Ali Landry (Miss USA, Felicity, Clueless, Eve), Manny Perez (Washington Heights, El Cantante, Illegal Tender), and award winning Director Alejandro Monteverde, many of which will be at this year's Fundraiser to receive their award.

Kudos to the City of Rancho Santa Margarita for Emergency Notification System
Kudos to the City of Rancho Santa Margarita for Emergency Notification System
OCTOBER 25, 2007
As the Santiago Fire are being subdued, there is a sense of relief in an around the City of Rancho Santa Margarita. City officials deserve a lot of credit for the calm because of their proactive use of a reverse 911 system – rather than waiting for residents to call and ask for status, these officials have been regularly calling residents around the city’s sphere of influence with recorded messages. The residents then decide whether they want to hear the updated status.
Meanwhile the Santiago Fire has been declared a case of arson and a $70,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of perpetrator(s).
The city of RSM provided very useful fire updates by e-mail to businesses in RSM which we were able to pass on to our employees. They were pro-active which was great. Obviously, RSM and the state of California were not the state of Louisiana . This was not an encore of Katrina; thank God. Could it be that we had local officials and a Governor who knew how to be leaders rather than a bunch of incompetent politicians as was the case in Louisiana that could not manage their way out of a wet paper bag? And, most important, significant disaster planning was already in place to deal with this probability. Go figure. Now we have to do the same disaster planning in Coto because we were lucky this time. Joseph Morabito, former member CZ Master Association board of directors.
2000 Coto de Caza Fires, taken from Torrey Pines in Hillsboro - Photo: CotoBuzz
The History of the reverse 911 system used by RSM during the 2007 Santiago Fires
776 BC - First recorded use of homing pigeons used to send message - the winner of the Olympic Games to the Athenians.
59 BC - Julius Caesar keeps people informed with handwritten sheets
1850 - Paul Julius Reuter spotted the opportunity to speed up news between Brussels and Berlin by using homing pigeons to bridge the gap in the telegraph.
1910 - During WWI: Allied spies used homing pigeons to dispatch messages, pilots would carry them on board in the event they had to send off a hasty SOS and ships could use them to warn of approaching danger.
1994- American government releases control of internet and WWW is born - making communication at light speed.
2006 – The Coto de Caza board of directors unanimously agree to use the post office to process requests from certain homeowners, rather than the use of email
10-2007 – Jerry Mezger resigns post in CZ Master Association board of directors
2007 – RSM Successfully uses a reverse 911 system to keep residents informed of Santiago Fire status.
11-2007 CZ Master Association Newsletter – Mum is the word on status of Mr. Mezger

El Loco - The Crazy Man In Action - In Coto de Caza?
El Loco - The Crazy Man In Action - In Coto de Caza?
OCTOBER 25, 2007
Executives and politicians call him the Crazy Man.
With executive approval, the Crazy man. A fervid supporter of the current administration, has negotiated with a number of service providers, doled out argentiferous subsidies and imposed restrictions to keep the community’s critics at bay.
When none of that worked, the Crazy Man ousted the official statistician to massage the numbers. The Crazy Man denies that happened. A judge is reviewing the case.
No, the Crazy Man is not a current or former member of the CZ Master Association’s board of directors. He is Argentina’s Secretary of Internal Commerce, Guillermo Moreno. The Crazy Man, or “El Loco”, is doing all he can to make sure the leftist Cristina Kirchner, the wife of the current president, Nestor Kirchner, can win her own bid for president in elections scheduled for this Sunday – She is heavily favored to win.

Censoring of Concerned Residents? – by property manager!
Censoring of Concerned Residents? – by property manager!
OCTOBER 22, 2007
Recently a group of concerned residents took out an ad in the Orange County Register alleging misuse of credit cards intended for emergency use only, and instead racking up some $312,000 of questionable expenses. The ad describes how Professional Community Management’s ( the property management company) fees have increased some 69% over a five-year period, without any evidence that the increase was warranted, for instance.
In the past, the CZ Master Association has used association’s legal resources in attempts to silence board critics. In this case, the management company, Professional Community Management (PCM) has taken the extraordinary steps of issuing a press release to notify residents that it is seeking IRS and the California Attorney General’s help. The reasoning, according to Russ Disbro, PCM ‘s CEO is that these concerned residents are “acting like a political action group and it should fill in the forms and play by the rules”, according to the article published by the OCR October 4, 2007 titled “Management company strikes back at Resident’s Voice. Management company will ask IRS, Attorney General’s help”.
The response from the concerned Laguna Wood Village residents to the salvo launched by PCM was swift and succinct, stating in part “We presented the facts to the IRS, Attorney General, FBI, District Attorney and the Franchise Tax Board seven months ago, to investigate the misuse/misapplication of our Community Trust’s assets and resources. We really appreciate PCM’s (Desmond MeLeish) Public Relation firm adding wood to this fire. We want all the attention we can get to help keep this fire going. Thanks, PCM you saved the community money for the first time!”
We have asked PCM’s governmental & public affairs manager Wendy Bucknum the reasoning behind PCM’s extraordinary move, given that to CotoBuzz Journal's readers following this story, it appears that the management company is simply trying to stifle public discourse on what appear to be valid concerns by residents. Wit Milt Jones, PCM's General Manager, charges against the residents in various public venues, and references to not only IRS, but the California Attorney General in its press release. We have yet to get a response from either the board or the property management company.

Coto de Caza Fires in Coto - Are you Prepared?
Coto de Caza Fires in Coto - Are you Prepared?
OCTOBER 21, 2007
As we smell smoke in the air, are you prepared to evacuate if ever ordered to do so?, asks former member of the CZ Master Association board of directors Joseph Morabito.
More Morabito goes on saying "the last time we had fire in Coto right at the end of our street, I was in Orlando on a business trip when my wife called telling me she was ordered to leave our home. She asked what she should take. I told her to grab the files in our file cabinet and leave quick. She took some but not all". Mr. Morabito's message to Coto de Caza residents is to be prepared, given the limited Fire Authority resources, and sever strain usually associated with the Santa Ana Winds:
we will have another serious fire in Coto. It is inevitable. When the Laguna fire struck and we had fire as well in Coto, the Fire Authority was so over stretched that they were prepared to sacrifice the homes on the eastern side of our Valley to stop the fire at the golf course. Had that occurred hundreds of Coto homes would have been lost. Fire equipment from Orange County is now being used to fight the Malibu fire as I write this e-mail. When ever we have Santa Ana winds, we seem to have fires all over. It is going to happen again in Coto. Now is the time to prepare"
We vehemently agree with Mr. Morabito recommendations. The 2000 Fires were too close for comfort – the picture below shows a fire just behind the Woods.
In 2000, it was argued Coto homes were not destroyed because the trails had been cleared by the CZ Master Association board of directors. Although we were never able to confirm this, it does make sense for the CZ Master Association board of directors or any number of the highly paid consultants to take a look at the stated of the fire line trails.

Coto & Ladera - 3Q2007 Crime and Vandalism report - A Tale of two cities
Coto & Ladera - 3Q2007 Crime and Vandalism report - A Tale of two cities
October 18, 2007
The latest Orange County Sheriff's crime and vandalism data shows a marked contrast between the communities of Coto de Caza and Ladera Ranch:
While the crime and vandalism figures in Coto de Caza display an upward trend, Ladera Ranch has been on a downward slope since the first quarter of 2006.
Crime and Vandalism Trend - Coto de Caza- Source: OCSD
Interestingly, since the total population in Ladera Ranch is roughly doubled that of Coto de Caza, an argument can be made that for 2007, the per capita crime and vandalism rate for Coto de Caza almost doubled, compared to the one in Ladera Ranch
Crime and Vandalism Trend - Ladera Ranch - Source: OCSD
Another significant difference in the two communities (for 2007), is in the age group of those involved in reported infractions. Of three age groups: 20 years and under, 21-29 and 30 years and over, in Ladera Ranch, the mid-range age is responsible for 40% of the reported incidents, whereas in Coto de Caza, the age group of 20 and under is responsible for a whopping 42% of the incidents.

30 and over

33%
The number of reported theft/burglary incidents reported in 2007 for Ladera Ranch, are roughly the same as the ones in Coto de Caza. We are currently trying to see if it is possible to determine the percentage of Coto residents responsible for the crime and vandalism figures within the community, as opposed to those simply visiting Coto de Caza
NOTE: Because of logistics issues, this 3Q2007 is a partial report

CZ’s River Rock Multi-Purpose Forecasting System In Beta Test
CZ’s River Rock Multi-Purpose Forecasting System In Beta Test
October 17, 2007
To complement the current CZ Master Association controller upgrade, we commissioned a very expensive multi- use forecasting systems to either complement or replace the current irrigation system. Without major changes, the system can be repurposed to complement the current gate access system or forecast the common area landscaping renovation requirements
Multi-purpose Forecasting System in Beta Test
What makes the system tick is the central processing unit (CPU) composed of a river rock. According to CZ landscaping consultants, the river rock is native to the area, consequently, we do not see any problems acquiring spare parts.
To use in a water conservation mode, the charts below are used by highly qualified landscaping consultants.
We feel this revolutionary technology will save the association so much money, that the system is forecasting the association will continue current subsidies for not CZ residents. So confident are we of the systems' capabilities that we are offering the system for free - like the $45,000 mature trees, previously accepted by the association's BOD.
To use system in water conservation mode, use the chart below:

Teen Hacker Endangers Lake Forest Couple
Teen Hacker Endangers Lake Forest Couple
Teen faces felony charges for endangering the lives of a Lake Forest couple by directly causing an armed SWAT team to be sent to their home using a computer hacking scheme.
October 16, 2007
According to the Orange County DA, Randall Ellis, 19, Mulkiteo, WA, is charged with one felony count of computer access and fraud, two felony counts of false imprisonment by violence, one misdemeanor count of falsely reporting a crime, and two felony counts of assault with an assault weapon by proxy. The teenager will be brought back to Orange County to face felony charges for endangering the lives of a Lake Forest couple by directly causing an armed SWAT team to be sent to their home using a computer hacking scheme.
If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on March 29, 2007, Ellis is accused of hacking into the Orange County 9-1-1 system. From his home in Washington, he is accused of randomly picking the names of a married Lake Forest couple, whom he had never met, and pretending to be them on the 9-1-1 system.
Ellis is accused of using the victim's names and address and claiming to have shot and murdered someone in the couple's home, and threatening to shoot additional people. The Orange County Sheriff's Department (OCSD) immediately deployed a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to surround the Lake Forest residence. Hearing rustling in the bushes outside and believing it to be a prowler, John Doe took a knife from the kitchen and went into the backyard, where he found the SWAT team pointing assault rifles at him. John Doe and Jane Doe were both handcuffed at gun point by SWAT and held until SWAT determined the report was a fake.
The Orange County District Attorney High Tech Crimes Unit and OCSD linked Ellis to the crime using forensic computer technology. Ellis is accused of instigating similar 9-1-1 emergency responses in other states including Arizona, Washington, and Pennsylvania.

The Coto de Caza gates, including the automated ones are as reliable as the public utilities in the outskirts of Baghdad, yet the association continues paying for services barely-rendered, no questions asked.
CHP DOES ITS JOB – CZ BOARD PLEASE DO YOURS! - Despite the public abuse the CHP has received from the Coto de Caza board of directors ever since the board was coerced into bringing the CHP back for pro-active traffic patrol, figures indicate that the CHP is doing its job: Trend for accident rate is down and close to pre-firing levels. Dangerous Coto de Caza Roads and Intersections
Dangerous Coto de Caza Intersections As a Function of Demographics
October 16, 2007
The changing Coto de Caza demographics have had a major impact on the collision pattern as shown below. Whereas for the period from 2000 through November 2004, 75% of the collisions in the community involved three roads, current collision distribution spreads out over eight.
Similarly, to arrive at the most dangerous intersections in the community, we took the CHP Collision Listing from 2000 through August 2007 and analyzed a total of 116 collisions. The reported accidents did not necessarily take place at the intersection, hence the label “Nearest Cross Street”

Orange County Crime Down, Nation's Crime Up - While the FBI is expected to report a 1.3 percent rise in violent crime nationwide in 2006 — an increase for the second straight year, Sheriff Michael Carona today announced that criminal homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft decreased by 3.7% in jurisdictions served by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in 2006. “This is great news for Orange County.
