Catherine of Sienna: Breaking the Glass Ceiling, Building a Staircase to Heaven, or a Bridge?

April 29  is the Feast of Saint Catherine of Sienna: Uneducated, illiterate, who hails from an ordinary family

Roberta Matuson, writing for Forbes asks a rhetorical question: Will Women Ever Shatter the Glass Ceiling?

Matuson then proceeds to advice women on how to shatter that proverbial glass ceiling based on the book she's peddling.

When people like Matuson talk about breaking the glass ceiling, they usually means overcoming the barriers set to prevent access to advancement. Breaking the glass ceiling also includes removing barriers for others experiencing the same struggles.


But we are reminded that "Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong, and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something, so that no human being might boast before God. Clearly Matuson and others like her are not talking about a glass ceiling on the Church: after all, Blessed Mother Mary was chosen to be the Mother of God! The early Christians were persecuted, throughout the Roman Empire, yet seven women saints stand out and are often venerated during Mass. For centuries, in societies where women were looked down upon, Catholic priests have been mentioning specific women right after the Consecration!

Let's kick it up a notch. Forget the glass ceiling. How about a staircase to heaven? Though she never studied theology and never learned formally to read and write, she came to be recognized as Doctor of the Church and a master of the spiritual life.


The 23rd child of Jacopo and Lapa Benincasa Catherine grew up as an intensely religious person. Catherine disappointed her mother by cutting off her hair as a protest against being overly encouraged to improve her appearance in order to attract a husband. Her father ordered her to be left in peace, and she was given a room of her own for prayer and meditation. She entered the Dominican Third Order at 18 and spent the next three years in seclusion, prayer, and austerity. Gradually, a group of followers gathered around her—men and women, priests and religious. An active public apostolate grew out of her contemplative life. Her letters, mostly for spiritual instruction and encouragement of her followers, began to take more and more note of public affairs. Opposition and slander resulted from her mixing fearlessly with the world and speaking with the candor and authority of one completely committed to Christ. She was cleared of all charges at the Dominican General Chapter of 1374.

St. Catherine is a true pro-life theologian as evidenced in Pope St. Paul VI declaring her a Doctor of the Church in 1970 - although her theology is not of the usual scholastic or academic type, it unfolds through a series of images and metaphors, some staples of the mystical tradition, others remarkably original and unusual. For individuals like Carherine, this enables them to interpret Scripture aright. This is how Catherine understood the extraordinary capacities of Jerome, Augustine and Thomas Aquinas: they were not simply learned, for many learned people know how to read the Bible. But this intimacy with God always flow over into active service. This is the Christian difference that separates Catherine from pagans like Plato or Plotinus. The highest ascent is always accompanied by most humble descent into love of one's neighbor. "The glory of God is a human being fully alive" - St. Irenaeus

We also recall the Apostles Peter and John: "Observing the boldness of Peter and John and perceiving them to be uneducated, ordinary men, the leaders, elders, and scribes were amazed, and they recognized them as the companions of Jesus.

Saint Catherine's mystical connections to the heavenly world - a Catherine of Siena Transform of sorts, if you will - analogous to the Laplace transform in mathematics. To be clear, Saint Catherine did not build the  bridge between the earthly kingdom and the heavenly one. Jesus did that.

Jesus said: "In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father.* From now on you do know him and have seen him"  John Chapter 14.  

While we know Christ is the way, the truth and the life, perhaps we can learn from Saint Catherine her Transform so we can travel from the earthly kingdom to the heavenly kingdom.

David Gelles, and Manuela Androni writing for New York Times' in Tipping Points for the Planet worry about global warming as a result of human activity. If they are honest, they should be worried about the New York Times.

While hundreds of NYT's reporters, including Benjamin Hoffman, fawned over Taylor Swift's epic milestone: She had to travel across the globe and through time, to make the Superbowl, while exacerbating climate warming. At the time, her critics called her hypocritical. If she is a hypocrite, what about the New York Times? What about you?

Google's Gemini Has Healed Itself!

To Err Is Human, But To really foul up requires Artificial intelligence tools like Google's Gemini. A design speaks volumes about the culture it was developed under. Google's AntiChristian, AntiUSA culture has been marinating for decades.

Given that Gemini is ubiquitous in the Google ecosystem, Elon Musk was alarmed at what Nate Silver at Silver Bulletin says “It’s increasingly apparent that Gemini is among the more disastrous product rollouts in the history of Silicon Valley. The AI’s results are heavily inflected with politics that render it biased” and inaccurate and Google’s explanations are pretty close to gaslighting. Indeed, the programming involved deliberately altering the user’s language to produce outputs that are misaligned with the user’s original request — without informing users of this, which could reasonably be described as promoting disinformation. Google should pull the plug on Gemini and provide the public with a thorough accounting of how it went so wrong, and hire, terminate or reposition staff so that the same mistakes don’t happen again.”





Google chief admitted the company got it wrong after Gemini's responses sparked a bitter backlash. Except for a BS In Race Hustling - Race Hustling is the highest paid degree: The University of Michigan has 163 DEI officers. Ohio State & U of Virginia have 94. Georgia Tech has 41, but only 13 history teachers. The Highest-paid diversity and inclusion employees rake in substantially more than the average full-time professor. While the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers Racially Exclusive-Programs and Scholarships

If a Twitter subscriber wants to refute Joe Biden's assertions, they will need to pay Twitter for the additional word count


While paying Twitter for identity verification may be a good idea, the new Community Notes Policy is an anathema to the free speech notion: a motivated group who dislikes a Community Notes observation, can easily recruit a a good number of actors to rate the observation "not useful" and cancel the contributor. Even easier is to have a CIB network to do the job. Coordinated Inauthentic Behavior (CIB) is an emerging manipulative communication tactic using a mix of authentic, fake, and duplicated social media accounts to operate as an adversarial network (AN) across multiple social media platforms. No wonder the Democrat Coalition is having a field day on X posting misleading and outright disinformation.

Does it matter who writes the longer posts? Who reads the longer posts? Who pays for likes and reposts on X? Absolutely! Facebook is to Twitter what Meta is to X: create revenue streams other than the traditional social media's revenue model.




Social Media companies, including X,make money through advertising rather than charging each user individually. If you are not paying for the product, the product is YOU. The media company renting your eyeballs to its advertisers.The more users on the site, the greater the number of advertisers willing to engage them, and the more those advertisers are willing to spend. The more the inflammatory the posts, the more clicks.The more clicks, the more revenue for the social media company. If the social media company knows you like to author or or read longer posts, the company can sell this information to advertisers. It's all about data mining. The crown jewels of a social media company is the data mining algorithm that identifies affinity groups and the traffic cop algorithm that control traffic between silos. Affinity groups are segments of users who have expressed or demonstrated an interest in a specific topic, category, or activity on social media platforms. For example, the #HollywoodRuleOfPedophilia is in effect in social media platforms: Pedophiles go where they are welcomed and stay where they are protected and well treated. Consider

LinkedIn's Campaign Manager tool allows you to select different affinity groups based on demographics, job functions, skills, industries, and interests.

With over 353.9 million monthly active users and a staggering $5 billion in ad revenue, Twitter stands as a social media juggernaut. Not surprising, countless Twitter advertising agencies are vying for the right silos.
