WESTMINSTER, CA - Christopher John Ontiveros was arraigned today for engaging in illegal acts with a 17-year-old female high school student whom he met through work.
Ontiveros, Huntington Beach, is charged with six felony counts and one misdemeanor, including one felony count of contacting a child with intent to commit illegal relations. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. The defendant is out of custody on $100,000 bail and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Feb. 11, 2010.
Ontiveros is a high school history teacher at Oxford Academy in Cypress. The defendant is accused of abusing his position of trust by developing a personal relationship with Jane Doe and making unsolicited sexual advances toward the student. On several occasions between June to September 2009, the defendant is accused of sending the victim numerous inappropriate text messages and engaging in illegal relations with the victim in the defendant's classroom and his car. Jane Doe's mother discovered the texts on her daughter's cell phone and contacted the police.
