Insurance Fraud is All in the Agdayan and Guyumjyan Family

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - Four defendants are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow for filing false insurance claims and collecting over $50,000 in insurance payments. The defendants are scheduled for a continued arraignment tomorrow, Feb. 3, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana
Ashot A Agdayan, 55, Newport Beach is charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit a fraudulent insurance claim, three felony counts of insurance fraud, and one felony count of recording a false or forged instrument
Mariam Boghosyan, 35, Tustin is charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit a fraudulent insurance claim and one felony count of insurance fraud
Gina Geganush Guyumjyan, 50, Newport Beach is charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit a fraudulent insurance claim and three felony counts of insurance fraud.
Yervand Srapyan, 46, Tustin is charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit a fraudulent insurance claim and three felony counts of insurance fraud
Co-defendant Vera Lusararyan, 74, Costa Mesa, is charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit a fraudulent insurance claim and one felony count of insurance fraud.
According to the Orange County District Attorney's (OCDA) office:
Between December 2012 and June 2015, Adgayan was the owner and manager of the Newport Cab Company and a separate luxury car service.
Agdayan and his wife Guyumjyan are accused of recruiting family members to be passengers in the taxi cabs owned by the company. Agdayan and Guyumjyan are accused of providing these family members with a script of circumstances to repeat to insurance companies in order to file claims for medical treatment sustained while they were passengers in the taxi.
On Dec. 14, 2012, Srapyan is accused of driving a taxi on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. Srapyan is accused of getting into a minor traffic collision with the victim. An officer from the Newport Beach Police Department responded to the scene to assist with the accident. Srapyan is accused of being alone in the vehicle at the time of the collision Guyumjyan, Boghosyan and Lusararyan are accused of claiming to be passengers in Srapyan's vehicle. Agdayan, Srapyan, Guyumjyan, Boghosyan and Lusararyan are accused of subsequently filing an auto insurance claim with Travelers Insurance seeking $55,500 in damages in the claim. Travelers Insurance issued a settlement to the defendants for over $22,200.
On May 14, 2013, Srapyan is accused of driving a taxi involved in an eight vehicle collision in Tustin. Agdayan is accused of claiming that he was the driver of the taxi and that Guyumjyan and Srapyan were passengers in the taxi at the time of the collision. Agdayan, Guyumjyan and Srapyan are accused of knowingly filing false insurance claims with State Farm Insurance Company for $58,000 for injuries and damages to the taxi. State Farm Insurance issued a settlement to the defendants for over $29,000.
On June 15, 2015, Agdayan is accused of filing a claim against the victim in the 2012 accident to collect money for damage done to the taxi prior to the accident.
"Southern California is ground zero for staged auto collisions, leading to tens of millions in annual losses for insurers," said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. "Every consumer pays for these crimes when insurers pass the losses along through higher insurance premiums."
This case was investigated by the Orange County District Attorney's Office and California Department of Insurance.
