Chiefly, Mum is the Word on Coto de Caza Public Safety Awareness

Chiefly, Mum is the Word on Coto de Caza Public Safety Awareness

November 17, 2007

CHP’s chief Elzig actively promotes public awareness in order to prevent traffic accidents (she refers to traffic accidents as preventable incidents) – The Varo/Mezger CZ board of directors instead of allowing her to send a public safety awareness message during board meetings, the CZ board of directors instead, turned control of a board meeting to a producer to promote a trashy TV reality show.

Fast forward to November 2007 – the trashy TV show is constantlyferatureds on local media, but this time there is a Chief’s Corner in the official CZ newsletter. Lt. Griffin pledges additional patrols, “not because of any crime increase in the area”.

Noting that the Sheriff is Coming, the Sheriff is Coming! line has often been used by the CZ board, and the sheriff never comes, we asked Lt. Griffin and Sheriff’s spokesperson Jim Amormino for a breakdown of enforcement hours per month allocated to the Coto de Caza and Ladera Ranch communities for 2007.

Further, to pick up on any potential public awareness momentum, we offered Lt. Griffin space in the Cot oBuzz Journal for a Chief’s Corner using either the same content or a variant of the one used in the CZ newsletter.

We also notified Lt. Griffin that the OCSD statistics does show an increase in crime and vandalism around the Coto de Caza community.

We have not heard from either Lt. Griffin or Jim Amormino.

However, history seems to be repeating itself, as there has not been any visible Sheriff’s presence around the community in 2007.
