Are Winds of Change Blowing (in Laguna Woods Village) - Or Simply Blowing in the Wind?

Are Winds of Change Blowing (in Laguna Woods Village) - Or Simply Blowing in the Wind?

September 1, 2007

The Garden Villa Association (GVA), an independent group formed by residents in the community, announced having selected Eric Baucum, George Dreyer, Stanley Feldstein and incumbent Third Mutual President Jim Matson as their candidates of choice for the Third Mutual board to be voted on during the Annual Meeting scheduled for October 4, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. in Clubhouse 5.

It was reported that the GVA reached consensus after an identical set of questions was posed to each one of the candidates. We have been unable to reach GVA representatives to determine if questions included references to credit card usage by PCM employees, recognition of CC&Rs, or supplier management issues, such as PCM.

Coincidentally, conspicuously absent was any discussion about credit card charges and reimbursement expenses by PCM employees, during the Third Mutual, Meet the Candidates Event (on CH6) , which has angered a numbered of residents, while dismissed by United Director Jan McLaughlin( in August 9, 2007 Director's Corner), as coming from a "a relatively small group called the Voice...". Ms McLaughlin (Directors' Corner) then finishes with the question usually reserved for critics of the CID/HOA establishment: If you truly believe things are so bad, why do you stay?"

Meanwhile, the Voice residents, as Ms McLaughlin calls the group, has come up with alternative candidates Ernestine Hewitt, Don Lippert, &Stan Feldstein.

"I want you to know that I believe the Third Mutual candidates will address these concerns" said Connie Grunke, Resident's Voice spokesperson, referring the the credit card charges and reimbursement expenses by PCM employees. We have attempted to reach Milt Jones on a number of occasions for comments on this issue. So far the only thing we have gotten via email is "A press release has been issued on the credit card issue & can be found on our Web site at http://www.lagunawoodsvillage.com/article.cfm?id=2331
