Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - At the request of Rancho Santa Margarita City Councilman Steven Baric, Tomorrow Wednesday June 9, 2011, the Council will
discuss enacting a City Ordinance similar to the County Ordinance
proposed by Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Tony Rackauckas and
Supervisor Shawn Nelson (Fourth District) and passed unanimously by the
Orange County Board of Supervisors(OCBOS) on April 5, 2011. The County
Ordinance makes it a misdemeanor for registered sex offenders to enter
County recreational areas where children regularly gather.
In the past we have made the argument, and continue to support it, that whether
a city is the safest city in the county - the
state or the nation - or not is primarily a
function of residents and local governance, not
law enforcement. This ordinance is an example of a proactive approach to public safety.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Brian Fitzpatrick from the OCDA's Office will attend the meeting in support of the ordinance.
