Camas School District in Hot Pursuit of Equity Over Public Welfare.

Update: February 11, 2025

Correcting the Columbian's headline:  Camas Voters Did Not Reject the Utility Tax to Fund the Police.  They Rejected it to stop the City's Fiscal Mismangement.

And the rejection was not even close:  60-40.

Given Camas Mayor Steve Hogan’s City Hall's arrogance, we expected they had the votes in their pocket. Why the results are almost shocking, particularly the wide margin

If you ever wondered why the Camas School District seems to continuosly face budget shortfalls and why you should  Vote NO on City of Camas proposition No. 5 , hear ye.  From the top down:

Message from Washington, Parents Rights in Education:

I just wanted to share this message sent out by the Superintendent to parents in the Camas School District (Clark County) on Wednesday, January 22nd. I, along with several other parents did send emails to the Superintendent in regards to his message, as far as I know, nobody has gotten a reply back.

Democrats say your children belong to the state, just like in the Third Reich

*The message is too long to screenshot, so it has been copy and pasted from my personal parent commuication system the district uses. The photo attached was included in the message.

Dear Camas School District Community,

In our schools, we know how important it is for every student, family, and staff member to feel safe, welcome, and included. We also understand that national conversations or policy changes, especially those that impact our students’ experiences, can raise real worries for many in our community.

Our Strategic Plan reminds us that creating a culture of safety and belonging, providing high-quality instruction, and offering responsive pathways are key to helping every student feel valued, supported, and ready to succeed.

Here’s what we will do to ensure our schools are safe and welcoming for everyone:

Uphold our mission to provide an inclusive environment where students feel safe and like they belong.

Guarantee access to a free public education for all students, no matter their background, in a safe environment.

Create supportive spaces where students can share concerns with trusted adults who listen and help.

Take action if there are incidents of hate, unfair treatment, or discrimination.

Provide staff training on inclusive practices, cultural understanding, and equity-focused decisions to better support students and families.

Connect families with resources and services to meet their children’s unique needs.

Guide staff in having helpful conversations and addressing harmful or negative comments.

Here’s what we won’t do:

We don’t tolerate discrimination of any kind—whether based on immigration status, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or other characteristics.

We don’t ask for or keep information about students’ or families’ immigration status.

We won’t grant access to schools or student records to immigration officials without a legally binding warrant or court order, which must first be reviewed by the superintendent or legal counsel.

We believe diversity strengthens our schools and helps us grow as a community. Together, we’ll continue to make Camas schools a place where every student feels seen, valued, and supported to thrive.

If your child feels anxious or worried, please reach out to your school principal, administration/superintendent, or school board directors. Our Family Community Resource Center staff are also here to help connect families with additional support and services.

Thank you for being part of this incredible community and for believing in the importance of seeing, valuing, and serving every student.

Sincerely,

John Anzalone

Superintendent
