Bartolomé de Las Casas (1484-1566) was a controversial Spanish Dominican friar who revealed the atrocities of the conquests of New Spain and Peru and who strove to protect the basic rights of indigenous peoples in the Spanish Empire. For this reason, Las Casas is often called the 'Defender of the Indians'.
Bartomomè de las Casas, as vividly as any figure in the great Christian tradition, that a commitment to justice is an essential dimension of Christian discipleship. You simply cannot claim to be a follower of Jesus and remain indifferent to suffering and injustice. Even when many of the leaders of both Church and state were more than content to countenance the oppression of the Native Americans, las Casas in the name of Jesus, said no.
When so many in Europe were more than willing to see the the conquered Indians as little more than pack animals to be exploited and enslaved, las Casas insisted that the rights of the Indians be respected and their dignity upheld. And this conviction was not simply expressive of a deeply felt humanism; it was the fruit of Christian mysticism and spirituality.
Las Casas anticipated by four centuries many of the key features of Catholic social teaching: the dignity of each individual (inside the womb and out,) a people's right to self-determination, the moral superiority of democracy and the prohibition of against all forms of coercion on matters of religion.his shout against injustice still echoes in our consciences to this day. The people who canceled Columbus Day because the Spanish Conquistadors were too cruel to the Native Americans, now are even more savage, barbaric and depraved promoting human sacrifice usng the Biggest and Loudest Boom Box in the World, X, formerly known as Twitter.
Killing babies inside or outside the womb is no different than the widely condemned abominable practice of human sacrifice by the Native Americans that even leading philosopher and theologian Juan Ginés de Sepulveda, reached beyond Aristotle to the Old Testament to justify the enslavement and extermination of those who practiced idolatry and child sacrificel.
Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda is mainly known for his polemical writings against Bartolomé de las Casas in defense of the Spanish conquest of America and for his views on natural slavery. He was one of the most distinguished representatives of sixteenth-century Spanish humanism, ranking alongside Juan Luis Vives and Antonio Agustín. Not only did he write a vast quantity of works on history, law, politics, and chronology; he also produced important Latin translations of Aristotle and Aristotle’s third-century AD Greek commentator, Alexander of Aphrodisias.
These are the same people who argue for tight gun control legislation allegedly because of concerns for human. Any time there's a mass shooting, it is another chance to express righteous indignation. Another photo op. Another opportunity to see who comes up with the most shocking headlines – using children as props to denounce violence against children, for example. Another chance to score political points. Fox News’ Gabriel Hayes reported that ” several major U.S. newspapers – and their corresponding websites – hardly mentioned, or outright ignored, the attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the front pages of their Thursday morning editions,” while Michael Nobles in a post in the simpliliberty.com blog writes: “Many news networks on June 12 omitted mention of the recent attempted murder of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, even though some touched on issues facing the nation’s top court. All Sunday morning shows on CNN, CBS, NBC, and ABC did not cover the attempted killing, which took place on June 8, 2022
But the blood spilled on the streets as a result of progressive policies, is the same color as soft-on-crime prosecutors and elected officials, and the FBI normalizing high crime rate: The FBI’s own Hate Crime Statistics Report show who is more likely to commit a hate crime. It shows that parents who show up at school board meetings are not likely to be terrorists.
What about social media?
Social media made $11 billion in U.S. ad sales from minors in 2022. But Pedophilia is just one of thousands of affinity groups depraved users belong to.
Neither are Mass-attending Catholics, or those who display patriotic symbology or Pro-Life Advocates.
Nevertheless, Attorney General Garland sends the FBI to “protect” school boards and spy on Catholics. The FBI knows which public officials spew hate and call for violence against the police: Mr Anh Le was savagely beaten with a bat by two people in Chinatown. Despite the high Hate Crime rate in the city, The San Francisco DA plea-deal so the perpetrators did no get jail time – he had to sue to get justice

Or consider the two rioters who were responsible for burning down the Wendy’s in Atlanta during the BLM riots pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson and two counts of first-degree arson. Their punishment? Chisom Kingston and Natalie White will have to pay a $500 fine, 150 hours of community service and 5 years of probation. For reference, this is the same Fulton County where President Donald Trump was charged with 13 felony counts and facing a maximum of 76.5 years in prison.

Bartomomè de las Casas, reminds us the great Christian tradition, that a commitment to justice is an essential dimension of Christian discipleship. You simply cannot claim to be a follower of Jesus and remain indifferent to suffering and injustice. It reminds us of the Hypocritical Progressives Concern for Human Life
