Irvine, CA, March 21, 2006— According to The Raise Foundationä, Orange County’s Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC), there were over 33,000 reports of suspected child abuse and neglect in Orange County during 2005. And the worst news: five children died from abuse in Orange County: Iris – 4 months, Nicole – 10 months, Sonia – 11 years, Diana – 6 months, and Madison – 5 years.

The names of the five children who died from child abuse in Orange County in 2005 will be read and their memory honored on Wednesday, March 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art in Santa Ana when The Raise Foundation launches the 13th Annual Blue Ribbon Campaign in conjunction with National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April

According to Sheriff Carona: "Public awareness campaigns that focus on helping parents understand how important it is to be informed about keeping our children safe in the home and in the community go a long way in helping to break the cycle of abuse in Orange County. Healthy, informed parents and families play a vital role in giving our children the opportunity to grow up in loving, nurturing environments.”

Perhaps the Coto de Caza Board of Directors can take a page off of Sheriff Carona's initiatives and launch aggressive, pro-active public safety awareness campaigns, rather than turning over board meetings to producers of Reality TV shows?
