Reefer Madness, a Musica Comedy at Saddleback College
Reefer Madness, a Musica Comedy at Saddleback College
The Feel Good Musical of Spring
January 31, 2007
The Theatre Arts Department at Saddleback College presents Reefer Madness, book by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney, music by Dan Studney, and lyrics by Kevin Murphy, on February 29-March 9 in the McKinney Theatre.
Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy, directed by Patrick J. Fennell, takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana. Choreographed by Ellen Prince and musically directed by Carmen Dominguez, this musical morality tale leads these innocent teens on a hysterical downward spiral filled with “evil” jazz music, sex and violence. You won’t be able to resist the spoofy fun of this addictive and clever musical with numbers ranging from big Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes like “Down at the Ol’ Five and Dime.” Reefer Madness is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary.
NOTE: It contains adult humor, religious parody and drug use, as well as suggested violence and sexual explicitness. Therefore, it may be inappropriate for family entertainment.
Tickets are $13 general admission, $12 students/seniors, and $9 Saddleback community with current ASB stamp. Call (949) 582-4656 for tickets or log onto www.saddleback.edu/arts to order your tickets online. Dates: February 29, March 1, 6, 7, 8 @ 8 p.m. and March 1, 2, 8, 9 @ 3 p.m.
