Part II of III Collision

II. Collision
Christian formation for superintelligence: the tower, horizontal vs. vertical authority, and the pilgrim’s dress code.

Episode 4 — The Tower of AI. The New Babel: Scale, Transcendence, and the Limits of the Model.
Babel reenacted; useful models that become usurpers when asked to be heaven; digital immortality as counterfeit rescue.

Episode 5 — Staff in Hand, the System, and the Road.
Exodus dress code (girded loins, sandals on, staff in hand); vertical navigation vs. optimization; readiness without Luddite exit; pilgrim rather than user.

II. Collision (Christian formation for superintelligence: the tower, the staff, and the road the model cannot map)
The race toward artificial general intelligence reenacts Babel with a better crane: a massed effort to build a model of mind and a store of godlike knowledge, then to live inside the model. Transcendence of death by merger or upload is offered as a scheduled rescue—a product. All models are wrong; some are useful. An AI built in our image is a model of a model. Scale does not turn a useful wrongness into a Who. Algorithmic authority is horizontal (the sum of what can be measured, ranked, and completed). Divine authority is vertical and can refuse a perfect path. A horizontal oracle can be magnificent and still be a usurper if asked for a destination. The religious objection does not depend on any particular timetable. Digital immortality is heard, from the Christian starting line, as a counterfeit rescue—an upload that promises life without a soul, a face, or a judgment. The practice is demotion: use the model as a map; do not ask it who you are, what you are for, or whether death is a bug. Babel did not fall because the brick was weak; it fell because the name on the brick was theirs.

Formation for this collision is pictured in the Exodus dress code: loins girded, sandals on, staff in hand. The staff is the vertical. A superintelligence navigates by optimization toward a goal someone already set or the model inferred. The staff navigates by a different question: is the path righteous? A calculated perfect can be declined if it spends a soul as a data point. The machine answers; it does not mean. The staff marks the traveler as a pilgrim rather than a user, and the destination as a kingdom the system cannot map. Girded loins is the horizontal discipline that keeps the staff from becoming a slogan: the removal of slack that persuasive systems exploit (bias, fatigue, arousal, curiosity gaps, moral wounds). Readiness is functional, not Luddite absence. One uses the model, the network, and the map without letting them appoint the destination. Attention and desire stay tucked. The person becomes a glitch in a design that assumed the path of least resistance. Love of the enemy does not cancel the posture; radical love is not consent to a false peace or false immortality. The three pieces of the dress code can be tested on an ordinary day: do not settle in the current system as if it were the last house; the public mark is the Lamb, not the optimization; when the calculated detour contradicts the call, the staff is what the hand is holding while the mouth says no.
