III. Feed (Christian formation for the attention economy and purpose-driven engagement)
The feed is the flood in ordinary clothes—the collision continued on an ordinary Tuesday. Reason-based ethics break down inside an environment engineered for the fast system. Clickbait opens a curiosity gap or moral wound and lets arousal finish the work; platforms keep the fast system aroused on purpose. Surface cards replace frameworks. Careful reporting meets friction while sensational moral content is free and ranked. Outrage becomes a surrogate congregation: shared indignation supplies belonging, a tribe, and a burst of purpose that does not survive the mood. Lateral reading and prebunking are real techniques, yet knowledge of the harm does not beat an environment engineered for relapse. Willpower plans fail when the user is tired, insulted, or morally provoked, and when the binge pays in goods the person actually wants. Structural safeguards must be rebuilt: a default suspicion of high arousal, a community rooted in something other than reaction, an information diet with friction built in, and standing rules (no sharing from a headline; no new outlet without a lateral check; treat outrage as a prompt to slow down). These stop the pour long enough for whatever one holds to speak first.

A creed is a head start, not immunity. Christians are given the institution and then walk into the same room. The nothing-to-lose posture, cut off from the Savior who justified it, becomes nothing-to-check. Exposure feels like fidelity; a harsh share feels like prophetic nerve. Rage-bait aimed at believers has a reliable shape: a sacred noun, an enemy with a face, a moral wound that skips the verse and lands on the tribe. Lateral reading feels like disloyalty. The design borrows the authority of the creed so the creed will not be consulted. Navigation is the same dress code worn in public: no sharing from a headline (including one that names your Lord); no new outlet without a lateral check (including one that hates the people you already distrust); outrage is a prompt to slow down, not a mandate to defend. The staff asks the question the optimization will not: does this path tell the truth, and does it love the person the card has priced as an enemy? A parish that forms people only as an audience will lose them to a feed that forms them as a faction, because the feed rehearses daily. A creed that only ever speaks when provoked is no longer a creed; it is a trigger.

What remains is the positive use: purpose-driven engagement with a destination the system did not set. Purpose is the Why that still explains you when the yield is boring—a face, a neighbor who is not a data point, a road whose end the model cannot map. The feed is already a driver; purpose-driven means the purpose drives and the feed is the wilderness, not the shepherd. Technology is used; it does not appoint the end. The rules stay few: no sharing from a headline; no new outlet without a lateral check; outrage as a prompt to slow down; friction installed on purpose (delay, allow-list, a room not paid by reaction). The work in public follows from the hospital: say what is true without needing the enemy to be simple; forgive where forgiveness will be clipped as weakness; make things useful to a person who will never credit you; use the model as a map for a job that already had a reason; decline both the upload that promises a self with no confession and the raid that promises a self with nothing but confession of other people’s sins. Stewardship is presence without settlement. The pilgrim is the third figure—sandals on, staff in hand—able to leave a house that has started to feel like the last house. Superintelligence raises the rent on passivity. The test is dull: at the end of a week, did the engagement still serve the rescue, or did the rescue get recited in service of the engagement? If the first, the secret is still out, the door is still narrow, and the staff is still yours. That is enough to enter the mess. It is not enough to forget who got you out of it.

The eight episodes subtract toward this positive remainder: a starting line that is not a score, a rescue that is not a ledger, a narrow door that is not an aisle, a tower that is not heaven, a staff that is not a slogan, and a creed that does not fire merely because it was provoked. The collision and the feed do not repeal the figure of the pilgrim; they clarify whether anyone is still walking toward a gate the system cannot open.
Starting Line, Collision, Feed: Summary
The series begins with a comparative anthropology of starting lines. Christianity opens in bankruptcy: the person is a sinner whose debt requires a Savior, not a better ledger. This hospital posture admits the wounded and treats security as disclosed failure. The contrasting line (framed via Islamic fitra) begins in original purity to be guarded by walls and pillars, producing fortress cohesion and security as a path still open. Salvation follows: Christian good works are the fruit of a rescue already received (gratitude, not reopening a closed case); the alternative treats deeds as eligibility for a mercy that keeps the balance. Choice architecture is already theology—a narrow door versus a map of gates—each with its failure mode (drift or perpetual auditing). Superintelligence later appears as an undeclared architect whose frictionless defaults must not replace the repeated surrender.
Collision reframes the race to artificial general intelligence as a new Babel: a useful model of mind scaled until it is asked to be heaven and to schedule transcendence of death. Algorithmic authority is horizontal; divine authority is vertical and can refuse a perfect path. Formation is the Exodus dress code—loins girded, sandals on, staff in hand. The staff marks the pilgrim rather than the user and navigates by righteousness rather than optimization. Girding removes the slack that persuasive systems exploit. One uses the tools without letting them appoint the destination; radical love does not consent to false immortality. The traveler remains a glitch in a design that assumed the path of least resistance.
Feed continues the collision in ordinary clothes. The attention economy rewards the fast system; outrage supplies a surrogate congregation. A creed is a head start, not immunity: Christians can treat exposure as fidelity and let rage-bait borrow sacred nouns so the creed is never consulted. Purpose-driven engagement keeps the Why (a face, a neighbor, a road the model cannot map) in charge. Rules stay few—no sharing from a headline, lateral checks, friction installed on purpose. The test is dull: did the week’s engagement still serve the rescue, or did the rescue get recited in service of the engagement? The pilgrim enters the mess without forgetting who got them out of it.
