The Music Department at Saddleback College presents Concert Hour, a variety of individual and ensemble performances on Thursdays from Noon to 1 p.m. in Fine Arts Room 101. Admission is free.

The unique ensemble, Wedu, performs on August 30. This new music quartet is unusual because there are only three “regular” members. The fourth “wheel” always changes and can be any instrument. The three consistent composer/players who comprise Wedu are reedmen/balloonists Paul Carman and Matt Zebley and trombonist/balloonist Joey Sellers. Do you want to know what a “balloonist” is? Then come to Concert Hour on August 30 to find out. This ensemble is great to travel with, but you never know your destination…

Celebrate a 2007 piano duet recital with Janus Duo on October 4. Pianists M’lou Dietzer and Pennie Foster, with the arranging assistance of local composer Nancy Lau, bring their distinctive and varied talents together to create an entertaining hour featuring renowned composers. The selections range from Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro and Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba to the Christmas Tree Suite selections by Liszt, a Wedding Cake Caprice by Saint Saens and a medley from Ms. Lau’s recently published book “Gems for Two.”

On November 15 the Del Lago Trio performs elegant chamber music in a wide variety of styles, from Classical to Contemporary and Romantic to Ragtime. The unique combination of flute, clarinet and cello creates an engaging sonic palette. Members of the Del Lago Trio share their wide-musical experience with their audience, having played with Los Angeles Classical Ballet, American Ballet Theater , Oregon Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Opera Center and Cerritos Light Opera.

On December 6, Saddleback College Music Students in Recital. Saddleback College voice, instrumental, piano and jazz students perform in recital.
Saddleback College is located at 28000 Marguerite Pkwy in Mission Viejo , just east of Interstate 5 at the Avery Parkway exit. Parking is available in Lot 12. Take Avery Parkway to Marguerite Parkway turn left to the second traffic light, which is Saddleback’s Marguerite entrance. Turn right into the campus and take the second left to “ Theatre Circle ,” turning right into Lot 12.

The Music Department has established a comprehensive program which is considered to be one of the finest in California . Within the Department there exists a variety of specialized areas which permit students to explore and develop individual skills under the guidance of highly qualified music practitioners. The faculty's academic achievements are combined with vast practical experience which benefits the career-minded student as well as the individual with a more general interest. Student musicians are given the opportunity to perform in concerts, recitals and other performance situations both on and off campus. Music facilities include an electronic piano lab, Pro Tools HD recording studio, choral and instrumental rehearsal and recital halls, and soundproof practice rooms.
