Coto de Caza’s High-Impact Fathering – Happy Father’s Day!

Coto de Caza’s High-Impact Fathering – Happy Father’s Day!

June 14, 2007

Rosie O’Donell’s views notwithstanding, fathers’ value add in developing character in children is invaluable. As Wall Street Journal columnist’s Sue Shellenbarger writes “A growing body of research offers new insight. Fathers can have a distinct impact on children beyond that of mothers, and in many cases, without regard to the fact that they often spend less time with their kids, researchers say”. USC’s Dr. James Dobson and Founder and Chairman of the Board of Focus on the Family may disagree with Shellenbarger that the insight is new – he has been on a crusade to educate parents for at least three decades.

Schellenbarger quotes National Fatherhood Initiative President Roland Warren as saying that “As children grow older, focusing playful activities your child loves and needs is a path to high-impact fathering” – there are many examples of such activities around Coto – just wit the hockey games being played by a number of tweens. A good argument for Coto parents to identify the right playful activities. Schellenbarge describes an executive who calls his son during the day to play math games, asking questions such as “If LeBron James plays two games, and scores 20 points in each game, how many total points did he score”?

The community factoids below, extracted from CNN/Money developed by OnBoard supports the idea behind directing playful activities geared to high-impact fathering:

The 2004 figures are the last ones showing Coto de Caza by itself, with a much higher crime rate. The 2006 fold in other communities in the 92679 zip code.
