Rancho Santa Margarita, CA -
The RSM Hawks won the 2012
Swoosh Summer Sizzler 3 tournamnent by
an average of 24 points per game proving once again why they are ranked number
one in Southern California 7th
Grade basketball.
The RSM Hawks, who received an at large bid to play in the
Swoosh Summer Sizzler 3, were the only All-Net Team invited to the
tournament which featured the top AAU
Club Teams in Southern California.
Coach Reed received the invite late Tuesday night for the weekend tournament, while the Hawks were on summer break and had not had a full practice since winning the Southern Ca.
All-Net Spring Tournament. The Hawks arrived early Saturday morning for a quick walk through practice and then turned their attention to their first opponent the California Basketball Academy out of Northern California. The Hawks quickly jumped on CBA cruising to a 61 to 29 win as Jones and Kafentzis combined for 44 points.
The Hawks had a one hour rest and little time to celebrate their first victory in months as they faced next the California Basketball Group from the Inland Empire, playing its first game
of the tournament.
Newly acquired 6'1" forward Joey Garman who the Hawks had
just picked up in a three team trade came out firing on all cylinders as he proved to be too big and too quick for the CBA
big men to handle. With the addition of Garman to go alongside 6'3"
center Reed the Hawks
have the strongest front court in Southern Ca. Reed's rebounding and shot blocking and quick out let passing to the Hawks guards enabled the Hawks to build an early 15 lead. Flashy point guard Pourali came off the bench early, dishing out and nailing two quick three pointers to help put away CBA by winning 56 to 29. Jones lead the way with
19 points.
In the Semi-final game against the Camarillo Blazers, newly acquired Jason Alvarado came off the bench to play alongside Jones and Kafentzis as Hawk Coach Montes quickly adjusted the rotation to play with three guards. That adjustment proved to be too much for the Blazers to handle as the Hawk trio trapped the Blazer guards and forced turnovers that quickly turned into layups on the other end. Big man Matranga grabbed a team high 11 rebound and set the tone with his physical play as Blazer bodies were bouncing off his muscular body and hitting the floor time and time again. Pourali once again showed his unselfish play as he found open Hawks for
easy layups as the Hawks defeated the Blazers 53 to 36 to advance the Championship game. Kafentzis lead the way with 23 points.
The Hawks were matched up against the number seed OC Vision who put together the club of all club teams. OC Vision has won the tournament for two consecutive years as they reached out to other club teams in Southern Ca. to cherry pick their top players to enter the tournament. OC
Vision had not lost a game in 8 months as they were crushing their opponents by an average score of 26 points.

Leading Hawk score/ stealer Kafentzis picked up two fouls in the first minute of the game and had to exit to the bench. OC Vision took advantage of the Hawk loss and went out to an early 19 to 8 lead.
Coach Reed and Montes turned to the 6th grader Alvarado to settle
the Hawks down. He delivered with a pair of three pointers as the Hawks chipped away at the lead. Jonesy, fresh off a
month vacation, attacked the basket and
fired from downtown to help get the Hawks back in
the game along with Matranga's physical play inside. With 7 minutes to go in the half, Coach Reed he inserted Kafenztis back into the game.

as the Hawks started the second half with 15 consecutive points to build a 35 to 22 lead. OC Vision's big man became so frustrated with his inability to score against the Hawk big men Reed, Matranga, and Montes that he left the game with 5 fouls and a parting technical as he fired his jersey at the OC Vision bench. Guards Pourali, Alvarado, Jones, and Kafentzis quickly silenced the OC Vision crowd as they found the streaking Jackson in the open court for basket after basket finishing with a game high 24 points as the Hawks prevailed 47 to 30 to knock off the OC Vision and handed them their first loss of the season!!!
