1.5 °C is a Paris political target, not a sharp geophysical switch. Observed warming, ECS/TCR ranges, carbon-cycle feedbacks, aerosol masking, and internal variability all sit underneath the rounded number.

The report is a layered synthesis: models → budgets → IAMs → pathway stories → governance/justice chapters. Hard baselines that should be first-class: observed GMST and ocean heat, actual global emissions (still high), historical skill of similar gap reports, land/water/energy constraints on conventional CDR, current novel-CDR capacity (~negligible), and first-principles limits on how fast a 8-billion-person energy system changes. 4.2 Independent inquiry autonomy — Fail at the packaging layer; mixed at the literature layer.
The underlying papers can be cited and criticized. The institutional product presents a standardized package: exceedance is unavoidable, the named pathway is the remaining option, mitigation + adaptation + governed CDR + finance + equity must move together. Dissent on sensitivity, the usefulness of 1.5 °C as a control variable, or the scalability/ethics of CDR is not a first-class output of this document. Career and funding incentives in this field have long favored staying inside the overshoot-and-CDR story.
4.3 Human-centric agency moats — Fail for the intended audience.
A specialist can open AR6, carbon-budget papers, and CDR reviews and argue. The post and press release are built so that most readers never do. Authority is the UN + named officials (Guterres, Andersen, COP figures). Corrections and debates are expected to stay inside the same multilateral process.

That is not this publication. The post is narrative engineering around a real climate-physics problem. The report is a high-quality specimen of the institutional synthesis genre the framework was written to downgrade.
