Pauly's Perspective: Hope For Future Fades Under Obamanation

Deborah Pauly

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - Among the most fundamental purposes of our Constitutional Republic is to “Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” That means passing on to our children and our children’s children the economic freedom to pursue a good life, the ability to find good paying jobs and then enjoy the fruits of their labor without government extracting more than its fair share from their pocketbooks

As parents, our goal is to see our children grow into happy, healthy and productive adults. We do everything in our power to help them achieve the American Dream. We tell them to go to school, work hard, get good grades, stay out of trouble, get into a good college, study hard, get a degree and the world is your oyster. That used to be true.

During the recent Republican National Convention, what hit me hardest was when Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan said, "College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life."

That is exactly what is happening all over our country under Obama, who rode to election victory in 2008, largely on the youth vote. Well, look where that has gotten them.

The National Unemployment Rate has hovered at 8.3% for most of 2012. In Democrat-controlled California it’s worse: about 10.8%. This translates into nearly 2 million unemployed Californians. But the weak labor market has been, and continues to be, particularly tough on young workers, according to a report by the Economic Policy Institute. Unemployment rates for those under age 25 is about twice that of the national average:16.4%. According to the same report, for young college graduates the unemployment rate is 9.4%, but more telling is the underemployment rate, which has been over 19% the past year.

I have heard from dozens of bright, young college graduates about their frustrations working part-time flipping burgers, coaching youth sports or serving coffee while they search for jobs in their degreed field of study. They might as well have just camped out with the Occupy Crowd, instead of working so hard in school.

To top it off, Obama’s rabid spending has shackled them with nearly $16-trillion in debt. That translates to $51-thousand for every man, woman and child in this country, whether they are working or not. That is not liberty. That is slavery to the government.

Our young people have every reason to help us fire Obama this November. It’s not too late to secure the blessings of liberty. Let’s send Obama on a permanent golf vacation.
