Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – The Department of Theatre Arts at Saddleback College is presenting Spring Awakening, a youthful coming-of-age Broadway musical on October 19-28 in the Studio Theatre

Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the controversial German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for some time due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Set in late-19th century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score. This musical took Broadway by storm, winning eight Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Directed by Daniel R. Trevino, with choreography by Ellen Prince and musical direction by Christopher Smith.

Contains adult content and is recommended for mature audiences.

Dates:  October 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 at 8 pm and October 21, 28 at 3 pm.
