A Poor Little Victory For the Little Sisters of the Poor

The eight current justices of the Supreme Court this morning decided not to rule on the merits of the court case involving the Little Sisters of the Poor. The High Court decided instead to send the case back down to the lower federal courts to see if a compromise can be achieved -- a compromise that would protect the religious liberty rights of groups like the Little Sisters. 

This is a huge temporary victory. But the fight is far from over. 

Thankfully, the Court also unanimously decided that the federal government could NOT impose their crippling fines on the Little Sisters -- at least not until any proposed compromise can be examined by the courts. The Supreme Court stated: "Because the Government may rely on this notice, the Government may not impose taxes or penalties on petitioners for failure to provide the relevant notice.
